Seeing not one but two swirls at the base of a waterfall is extremely rare. It requires rock formations on either side to provide a backchannel for water to flow away from the central channel as well as the right volume of water to prevent overwhelming the backflow. Being so unusual, I was pleasantly surprised to encounter this on my waterfall hike.

The morning light also reflected a warm glow in the swirls, as the beginning of Autumn had taken root at Ricketts Glen State Park. Capturing the image required me to stand in ankle deep chilly water for about 30 minutes. Although wet and very cold, seeing the fall colors sent me home very happy that day.
